5: Adding text, bevel & shadow

This tutorial is made using version X3 of Paint Shop Pro, but they’re more or less similar so it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out how to do the same on a different version.

In all the tutorials I have used the same palettes and menu options.

Please make sure you read/do the three first tutorials first.  I will no longer be showing how to open/save an image.

Pick colour to use for the text:

To the right you will find your palettes, look for the material one.  Make sure the bottom large coloured square is showing, and on the top one click on the little “NO” sign (transparent).

Left click right smack bang in the middle of the lower one with your mouse.

2

Now move your mouse over your image and a little dropper will show.  Click with the dropper onto the colour you want to use for your text.  Click OK.

3

Use Text Tool:

Click on the Text Tool.  Choose which font you want to your and which size you want it.  Click on the image and start typing what you want.  Click small green Apply button when happy.

4

Add bevel to text:

Go to Effects – 3D Effects – Inner Bevel

5

It will ask if you want to make into Raster layer.  Agree.

Have a play around with the different settings until happy.  Click OK.

6

Add shadow:

Click on Effects – 3D Effects – Drop Shadow

7

Play around with the settings until you’re happy.  Click OK.

You’ll now have an image with text on it:
